Outdoor Fun
For people who like to fish, Rockland is a great place for fishing right on the banks of the lake. Visitors report catching bass, sauger, catfish, crappie, and walleye. Or you can go out on the lake in a boat.
Since the area is moderately wooded, people walking the trails can see many forest birds that live there year-round. During the winter months, many bird watchers see migratory birds going through.
The lake is an excellent place for waterskiing, boating, and swimming. There is a boat ramp with easy accessibility. There are places to practice archery and horseshoe pits.
Visitor Center
The visitor center At Rockland Recreation includes displays about the history of Old Hickory Lake. It explains how the Army Corp of Engineers built the lake as part of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1946.
